Nora Obergeschwandner (b. 1981, Austria) is a photographic artist based in Vienna.
Her practice explores how identity is formed and transformed through relationships, experience, and social structures. She is interested in transitional states and subtle shifts – moments when something is already sensed before it becomes clearly visible or understood.
In self-initiated, research-driven long-term projects, Obergeschwandner develops close relationships with the people she photographs. Repeated encounters, conversations, and shared time become part of the photographic process. The relationship between photographer and sitter shapes what becomes visible, while leaving space for what resists a definitive interpretation.
Working predominantly with analogue photography, she combines documentary proximity with subtle forms of construction. Her images move between individual experience and social context, between what is revealed and what remains unresolved.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the National Portrait Gallery in London as part of the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition.
